PL15 Viscosity Reducer

A viscosity reducer developed specifically for high-viscosity oily sludge. It tackles the poor flowability, difficult pumping and uneven agitation of sludge under winter, low-temperature and high-wax conditions, creating workable process conditions for C50N3 hot-wash separation.

If the sludge is too viscous, treatment cannot even start

At low temperature, high-viscosity sludge turns paste-like or even block-like: it will not pump, will not stir and does not contact the chemicals fully — even the best separation agent cannot do its job. PL15 works at the very front of the chain: it turns material you cannot treat into material you can treat.

  • Improves flowability so pumping and agitation return to normal
  • Most useful for high-wax, high-pour-point material and winter operations
  • Staged dosing with C50N3: viscosity reduction first, demulsification after
Dosage note: PL15 dosage depends on the material's viscosity and pour point; bench-test results are definitive. Overdosing increases chemical cost and may affect downstream phase separation — we recommend building the dosage up step by step.
Note: PL15's product form (liquid/powder) and packaging are subject to the final product data sheet; the parameters on this page are reference values. Contact us for the current specification.
Use Cases

Which sludge needs viscosity reduction first

In the following cases, we recommend adding a PL15 pretreatment step before C50N3 hot-wash separation.

Winter operations

At low ambient temperature, sludge flowability in storage tanks and silos drops sharply, making unloading and transfer difficult.

High-wax materials

Sludge formed from waxy crude has a high pour point and is paste-like at ambient temperature; the wax-crystal network must be broken before hot washing.

Aged tank-bottom sludge

Long-deposited tank-bottom sludge has a high proportion of heavy fractions and high viscosity; direct mixing and agitation are inefficient.

Premixing for transport

When material must be moved over long distances, reduce viscosity first to cut line losses and the cost of line clearing and heat tracing.

Combined Use

Position in the C50N3 process chain

PL15 only solves flowability; it does not replace C50N3's demulsification and separation. The two are dosed in stages, each handling its own segment.

FAQ

About PL15

Can PL15 treat sludge on its own?
Not recommended. PL15's function is viscosity reduction and dilution; it has no demulsification or separation capability. It solves the upstream problem of material that cannot be moved or handled — the final indicators are still delivered by the C50N3 hot-wash/centrifuge stage.
How do we decide whether to add this pretreatment step?
Tell us the sample's appearance, temperature conditions and wax content, or send the sample directly. The bench test runs "with and without PL15" side by side, and the data decides whether the step is worth adding.
Does the chemical itself have problems at low temperature?
Storage life is 12 months; storage requirements are provided with the product documentation. For winter transport and outdoor storage in northern regions, follow the recommendations to avoid crystallization at low temperature; contact us to confirm a plan for your working conditions if needed.

High-viscosity, high-wax sludge that is difficult to convey and handle?

Send a sample or the material parameters; first we decide whether viscosity reduction is needed, then we discuss separation.
